Volunteer drivers provide transportation to medical appointments for individuals who are unable to drive or have no other resource for transportation. Appointments for Gillespie County residents can be in Fredericksburg, Kerrville, San Antonio or Austin.

Provides basic needs to frail seniors residing in the Jefferson area. The Jefferson Area is defined by 410 on the north, IH10 on the east, Culebra Road on the South. The west boundary is Bandera Road from 410 to Woodlawn Ave., west on Woodlawn to Camino Santa Maria, then south on Camino Santa Maria to Culebra Rd. A map of the service area is on the Website. Services include transportation, mobile meals, lunch bunches, handyman, telephone reassurance, information and referral and HEB Co-op grocery delivery. The thrift shop is located at 2202 Bandera Rd., SA 78228, & is open Wed-Sat, 10-4. Items include clothing, furniture, used appliances, miscellaneous. Thrift shop sales help fund senior services.

Northeast Senior Assistance (NESA) offers services to people living in all of zipcodes: 78209, 78217, 78218, 78234, 78239, 78247. Also serve parts of zipcodes: 78212, 78216, 78232, 78233 Volunteers provide transportation in private autos for medical appointments. One to two weeks prior notice required. Telephone reassurance is also available. Offers grocery shopping service for clients. This is the only errand running or shopping assistance offered by NESA. A volunteer is assigned 1 or 2 clients to contact on a weekly basis & take the grocery order. The volunteer picks up & delivers the groceries to the clients home. Clients are responsible for payment of groceries. There is no charge for the delivery.

Presa Community Center provides transportation services for those who are unable to drive or use public transportation. Elderly & persons with disabilities can use this service to make doctor’s appointments or shop for their weekly groceries. Reservations should be booked at least two weeks in advance, or as soon as patients have the date & time of their next doctor’s appointment, as the program is in great demand & fills up quickly.

Southwest Outreach for Older People (SWOOP)

SWOOP provides free, volunteer-assisted transportation services to seniors (60 and older) and their caregivers to medical related appointments in Southwest San Antonio. Clients must be enrolled with SWOOP prior to receiving service. Each ride is door-through-door, which offers personalized, hands-on assistance to older adults. SWOOP’s services complement the efforts of families and caregivers and helps fill the gaps when traditional transit options do not accommodate the special needs of seniors. Volunteer drivers using their own vehicles, will pick up seniors requiring transportation at their residence, stay with them throughout the appointment & return them home. Request for transportation need to be at least 7-10 working days in advance.
Area served: Loop 410 on the West & South, up to West Commerce St. on the North, & Roosevelt Dr. on the East.

Authorizes and arranges transportation for all categorically eligible Medicaid recipients to access covered health care services (including Dental services for recipients under 21 years of age). MTP requires at least two work days advance notice for most requests, but will attempt to accommodate urgent ones.
